DUI, DWAI
If you've been charged with drunk driving, you may need a lawyer.
Colorado's drunk driving laws are complex. You may face penalties including a sentence to the county jail, probation, public service, fines and costs, and drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment.
On top of the court's penalties, you may be subject to Department of Motor Vehicle penalties. If you receive 12 points (as an adult) or 6 points (as a minor) in a year, your driver's license could be suspended for up to one year. A DUI conviction gets you 12 points; and automatic suspension.
Aside from fines of up to $1,500, you may be on the hook for your drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment, court costs, and payments to several Colorado drunk driving prevention programs. In addition to court costs and penalties, you could be required to purchase expensive SR-22 insurance.
At every stage there are opportunities to lessen your penalties or even prevent a conviction. Courts are permitted to suspend portions of your sentence or give you house arrest instead of time in the county jail.
Circle Law will address your case on an individual basis. Attorney John Scanlan will take every opportunity to lessen your penalties.
